Domestic & General (D&G), the UK’s leading appliance care specialist, is proud to be appointed as the Official Warranty Provider to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will see around 4,500 athletes from 72 nations and territories compete in 19 sports across 14 competition venues from 28 July until 8 August 2022. As the biggest sporting event ever to be held in the West Midlands, it is expected to attract more than one million spectators to the city and have a global TV audience of 1.5 billion.

This partnership will enable D&G to continue to grow its visibility across the East and West Midlands, building from the development of its new operations hub in Nottingham, which will bring in £50m of direct investment to the city. The partnership allows D&G to help promote the region on a global stage whilst being directly involved in an iconic celebration of sport.

The Games aims to be the first sporting event to create a carbon-neutral legacy – something D&G is also committed to with its goal of delivering a more sustainable future. By delivering over 2.4 million repairs a year, D&G helps to keep appliances in use for longer and reduces waste. The group continues to focus on bringing sustainability to the core of its services and acts responsibly to make the world a better place, one repair at a time.

Further to its involvement with the Games, D&G is proud to be able to support the Gen22 programme – a unique volunteering opportunity launched by Birmingham 2022. The programme provides young people from the Midlands with employability boosting opportunities, to which they would otherwise not have had access.

D&G will be offering Gen22 programme participants from ages 18-24 the chance for volunteering and work experience within their business. As part of this work experience, D&G will support the programme through the provision of workplace training and guidance, totalling 30 hours for each participant. The training opportunities that D&G will be offering include CV writing skills, interviewing skills, workplace communication and digital skills.

Matthew Crummack, CEO of Domestic & General, said: “We are proud to be sponsoring the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. This opportunity allows us to continue with our ongoing support of the region and enables us to help contribute towards a lasting legacy, particularly through the work with Gen22.”

David Grady, Chief Finance Officer at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Domestic & General as an official sponsor of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. D&G are a huge supporter of the West Midlands and the communities living here. We are aligned in our vision to empower and celebrate the next generation in Birmingham and across the region this year and in the future.”

Katie Sadleir, CEO of the CGF, said: “We are delighted to be welcome Domestic & General as the Official Warranty Provider for Birmingham 2022. The Games continues to attract market leaders who are passionate about promoting the city and the region on the world stage – while delivering an unforgettable multi-sport event.”
